Head of Hearing and Vision Specialist Service
Cara
I’ve worked with the Hearing and Vision Specialist Service since 1992 and I’ve been Head of Service for the last 6 years. Our service offers specialist intervention and support to babies, children and young people aged from 0 to 25 years, who have a permanent or long-term hearing loss, are deaf, have vision impairment or multi-sensory impairment. We work in educational settings and in their homes.
My role is to lead our team of 41 specialist, additionally qualified staff who work across our 2 teams under the direction and guidance of our team leaders.

My role provides strategic oversight and leadership. To pull together how we work with babies, children, young people and their families across the two teams as one united service.
It involves closely working with our team leaders about the operational working of the service, Stockport Council and NHS services who support and are linked to hearing and vision services. We also work with external agencies, parents and carers, and educational settings. It’s a busy role as we have over 700 babies, children and young people on our permanent caseloads. It’s a complex, extremely busy, often challenging role. It requires a lot of thought, specialism and communication due to the nature of our work. We work in different areas, out and about across the borough. I wouldn’t ever want to do a different job, it’s great!
