Bertie’s Story

Bertie has been attending Stockport County holiday sessions for a few years, and he absolutely loves them. The most recent camp he joined was during the October half term at Dial Park School.

During the sessions, Bertie really connected with 2 of the coaches, Mike and Charlie. They’ve helped him massively with his confidence and made him feel comfortable and supported. Bertie has additional needs – he sometimes struggles with his temper and wears hearing aids – but Mike and Charlie encouraged him to step out of his comfort zone. He came home happy and full of excitement after every session.

Bertie plays for a football team on Sundays and asked the coaches if they might come and watch him play. He didn’t expect them to give up their own time at the weekend, but they both drove to Failsworth to watch him play. Bertie was thrilled that they took time out of their weekend to support him.

Bertie can’t wait for the next holiday camp when he’ll see the 2 coaches again. Bertie’s story is a great example of how HAF provision can build confidence, create lasting connections, and make a real difference to children and families.
