The council has to share information with other water and flood risk authorities so that we can work together to help you or your enquiry. We have to record flood incidents and monitor situations to support Emergency Services and welfare. We use the information to support future investigations where appropriate and maintain records of flooding to inform future enquiries, monitor trends and advise on future flood risk.

What is the legal basis for using your information?
Because you have provided consent to allow us to use your data. This can be withdrawn at any time, please contact the Office of the Data Protection Officer.

Who do we share your information with?
The council shares the data internally so that various officers can assist and respond as appropriate. In a severe flood situation, we would share and discuss with Emergency Services. We will also share for investigation purposes with the Environment Agency and United Utilities Plc and possibly with Highways England, Network Rail and other utility companies depending on the report nature and location.
How long will we keep your information?
As flood risk and flood events are managed over many years we will store the information you provide of the flood events for as long as necessary. If it is a flood event this has to be recorded usually keeping the location and summary. Your personal information will not be recorded in this way but held on a separate system for 5 years. We will not be able to contact or cross-reference your details after that time.
Transferring your information outside of the European Union (EU)
We will not transfer your information outside of the EU.
