- administer taxi licences
- ensure compliance with statutory requirements and ensure licensing decisions can be made
- assess whether applicants and existing licensees are fit and proper to hold licences, in order to satisfy our public safety duties
- provide updates on relevant information
- provide reminders (where possible) in relation to renewal dates
- maintain the public register
- verify the right to work status of licence applicants, and in the case of private hire operators, individuals named on the operator licence
- verify other information about licensees and vehicles during the period that a taxi, private hire or operator's licence is valid
- assist with the prevention or detection of crime and/or the apprehension or prosecution of offenders, and fraud as part of the National Fraud Initiative
What type(s) of information do we use?
- name, date of birth and contact details
- demographic information
- gender and demographic information
- DVLA or overseas driving licence details
- details of traffic or criminal offences, alleged offences, related proceedings and accident information
- renewal dates, for licences and associated suitability checks
- photographs, proof of identity, Nationality/country of origin and proof of right to work in UK
- National Insurance Number
- Vehicle Registration Marks (VRMs) and Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs)
- complaints made about drivers, vehicles or operators
- licence and/or badge/plate number, issued to you or your vehicle
- relevant employment history
- insurance details
- completed medical forms and any supporting medical information from general practitioners or specialists
- outcomes of Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks

How long will we keep your information?
We will only retain your personal information for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes we collected it for, including for the purposes of satisfying any legal, accounting, or reporting requirements.
Generally, excluding the information required to maintain the NR3 database, we retain records from the cessation of licence + 6 years.
Transferring your information outside of the European Union (EU)
We will not transfer your information outside of the EU.
