maintain the security of property and premises and for preventing and investigating crime.

Photographs/media recordings:
publicise library events or services through the use of images, film, audio and words. Images/recordings may be publicised and/or printed in:

  • newspaper articles
  • websites
  • social media
  • information leaflets
  • electronic newsletters
  • presentations and other publicity materials

What type(s) of information do we use?

  • image and likeness (as captured in photographs, media recordings or on CCTV)

Photographs/media recordings only:

  • name
  • age
  • address
  • contact details (email, telephone number)
  • audio

What is the legal basis for using your information?

CCTV:

  • UK GDPR Article 6(1)(e) for the performance of a public interest task which has a clear basis in law or in the exercise of official authority; namely to ensure that the security of our staff, visitors, buildings and their contents are always maintained and for the purposes of detecting and preventing crime

Photographs/media recordings:

  • UK GDPR Article 6(1)(e) for the performance of a public interest task which has a clear basis in law or in the exercise of official authority
  • UK GDPR Article 6(1)(c) consent where:
    • an individual is under 18 years of age
    • from a parent or guardian for identifiable children and young people under the age of 13, or adults lacking capacity
    • attendees and participants will be named or quoted in a publication

You have a right not to appear in an identifiable way in photography and/or filming. We will always make you aware when photography/filming is taking place and will display notices to inform attendees or participants of this and how they can notify us if they do not wish to be photographed and/or filmed.

You can ask us to stop using your image(s) and/or voice recording at any time, in which case these will not be used in future publications, but may continue to appear in publications already in circulation, including digital feeds.

Who do we share your information with?

CCTV:

We do not routinely share this information with any external organisations or third parties.

There may be circumstances in which we may lawfully share CCTV images with third parties where, for example, we are required to do so by law, by court order, or to prevent fraud or other crimes. Where we share data, however, we shall do so in accordance with applicable data protection laws.

Photographs/media recordings:

We sometimes use third party organisations to collect and process data on our behalf. These organisations can include:

  • professional photographers
  • design agencies
  • printing services

We will take the necessary steps to ensure that any third-party organisation that we work with adheres to data protection law by ensuring that there is a contract or agreement in place with them.

Photographs can also be shared with third parties for wider distribution including:

  • social media platforms
  • news media companies
  • partner organisations

We will let you know when your image may be shared and how you can opt out.

How long will we keep your information?

CCTV:

CCTV recordings are retained for 23 days.

Photographs/media recordings:

Images will be retained for 3 years from the date of event (unless you have requested its removal).

After the 3-year period, photographs and films may be archived and will only be reused in the context of being an ‘archived photograph’ or an ‘archived film’, for example, pictures from a launch event being reused to help mark a tenth anniversary of the opening.

You may ask us at any time to stop using your image and information by contacting the department or team that took your photo. If you are not sure who this is, please contact libraries@stockport.gov.uk. We will not always be able to remove images used online and in print once in circulation, but images will not be processed any further by us.

Transferring your information outside of the European Union (EU)

We will not transfer your information outside of the EU.

Automated decisions using your information?

For this service all the decisions we make about you involve human intervention.
