The Stockport Safeguarding Adults Team collects, holds, and shares personal information about people who work with adults with care and support needs, whether an employee, volunteer, or student (paid or unpaid) when there is a concern or allegation that could mean they pose a risk of harm to the adults they work with.
We use this information to determine if the person poses a risk to adults with care and support needs, and to take action where there is evidence that adults with care and support needs are or might be at risk of abuse or neglect.

- which organisation you work or volunteer for, and role
- if a student, which university or college, and course
What is the legal basis for using your information?
We process personal data because it is necessary to comply with our legal obligations under the Care Act 2014 and Regulation 13 of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014 or to comply with a statutory function.
Where do we get your information?
We may receive personal information about you from:
- yourself
- care providers including family members
- other members of the public
- Greater Manchester Police
- Care Quality Commission (CQC)
- The NHS and other health services
- an employer, college or university, voluntary organisation, and any professional registering body (for example, the Nursing and Midwifery Council, the Health and Care Professions Council or the General Medical Council)
- the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS)
- other Adult Social Care teams within Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council
- other Children’s Social Care team within Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council
- other local authorities

How long will we keep your information?
Personal information collected is subject to Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council’s records management policies and procedures and will be held in accordance with its records retention schedule.
