Preventative commissioning

6. Independent living in the community

This service aims to ensure that people enjoy a good quality of life, which is fulfilling and enjoyable. This is an important part of independent living.

It will enable people to take part in a wide variety of social, civic, leisure, learning, work or volunteering opportunities, where they would otherwise find it difficult to get involved. This may be due to physical or emotional ill-health, a physical or sensory disability or caring responsibilities.

The service will help people become more socially active and involved in their communities. It will allow them to use their own life skills and experience to help others.

Independent Living and Wellbeing in the Community will play an important part in reducing social isolation and loneliness. This is known to undermine health and wellbeing.
