Light pollution

Measures are in place to ensure that light pollution is maintained to a minimum. However, there are certain premises where high levels of light are required for safety and security reasons:

  • Public service vehicle operating centres
  • Goods vehicle operating centres
  • Railway premises
  • Bus stations and associated facilities

Problem lighting that may be viewed as a statutory nuisance is determined by an investigation which looks at many factors. This could include the:

  • character of the area
  • duration of the problem
  • times at which it occurs
  • activities into which it intrudes
