Open+ libraries

‘Open+’ self-service technology is available in some of our libraries and allows you to use each library for extra hours each week, outside times when staff are present.

What you can do using Open+

In the library you can:

  • borrow books
  • return books
  • pick up reservations
  • go online using the public PCs or the wifi on your own device

Some services are only available during staffed hours, such as:

  • face to face information and guidance
  • photocopying
  • printing

Toilets may be unavailable during Open+

In some libraries, public toilets and baby changing facilities may be closed during Open+ hours.

Libraries - Open+

How to use Open+

All library residents over 18 can access Open+ using their library card and 4 digit PIN. 16 to 17 year olds can access Open+ by visiting their local library and bringing proof of ID.

Scan your library card on the scanner near the door and enter your PIN.

If you don't know your PIN, log in to you library account, select 'Forgot Your PIN' and follow the instructions to receive an email to your registered email address with your PIN.

Support

There are a variety of measures in place to support you and keep you safe whilst using your local library in Open+:

  • we provide an emergency phone and emergency contact numbers
  • the library has CCTV which is monitored during Open+ and gives excellent coverage of the library
  • Open+ also controls the lighting so that the library is bright and welcoming
