The times below apply to all libraries, and includes Open+.

Friday 22 December: open until midday
Saturday 23 to Tuesday 26 December: closed
Wednesday 27 to Thursday 28 December: open as usual
Friday 29 December: open until 3:30pm
Saturday 30 December to Monday 1 January: closed
Tuesday 2 January onwards: open as usual

2. Open+ libraries

‘Open+’ self-service technology is available in some of our libraries and allows you to use each library for extra hours each week, outside times when staff are present.

The Open+ libraries are:

How it works

You simply scan your card at the entrance, then enter your PIN to access the library. Whilst in the library you can:

  • borrow books
  • return books
  • pick up reservations
  • go online using the public PCs or the wifi on your own device

Some services are only available during staffed hours, such as:

  • face to face information and guidance
  • photocopying
  • printing

How to sign up for Open+

To use Open+, you will need to sign up with a member of staff at one of the libraries above.

You will need to and provide proof of identity, such as your driving licence, birth certificate or passport. You will also need to provide a proof of address, such as a Council Tax bill, utility bill or bank statement.

You must be at least 16 years old to use this service.

Support available

There are a variety of measures in place to support you and keep you safe whilst using your local library in Open+.

Once you are registered, we will give you a full induction of the library, including the locations of emergency exits. We also provide an emergency phone and emergency contact numbers.

The library has CCTV which is monitored during Open+. The cameras give excellent coverage of the library.

Open+ also controls the lighting so that the library is bright and welcoming.
