How to use PayPal

Lots of shopping websites use a payment method called PayPal. It's a safe and easy way to pay online. When you set up a PayPal account you can pay money into the account by credit card, debit card or direct from your bank.

You can use PayPal to pay for goods online. If for any reason you need a refund, a seller can easily send money back to your PayPal account.

PayPal allows you to send and receive money online without giving the seller your financial details.

Signing up to Paypal

  1. Click "Sign Up" on the PayPal website.
  2. Enter your name and your email. Choose a password. You'll give PayPal a lot of sensitive information so make sure it’s safe and secure, easy to remember, but not easy for other people to guess. A secure password should be a mixture of letters and numbers. Phrases that mix numbers and letters are safer and easy to remember eg. Iam50yearsold.
  3. Provide PayPal with your name, birth date, address, and phone number. You may need to remove the '0' from the start of your phone number as PayPal automatically includes the '+44' UK country code.
  4. Unless you want to shop immediately, choose 'Add a card to use later' from the 3 options given.
  5. To connect your PayPal with your debit or credit card, you’ll need to enter the long number given on your card, expiry date and card security code. This is usually a three digit code on the back of the card.
  6. You'll then receive several emails asking you to confirm your phone number and email address. Follow the instructions given to activate your account.
  7. Your account is now ready to use.
