Working together is the key to the Stockport Local Approach

‘Stockport Local’ is Stockport Council’s new way of working with communities. It’s about strengthening relationships between public services, communities and volunteers.

It includes:

  • Stockport Local community directory - making it easier for everyone to get involved in their local area
  • Stockport Local Fund - investing in great ideas from communities, for communities
  • Networking events that bring together business and community organisations to innovate and help each other

Councillor Amanda Peers, Cabinet Member for Inclusive Neighbourhoods, said: “We know that Stockport works best when it works together. We all belong to a local community and it's easy to get more involved. From looking out for neighbours, to joining community events and groups, to volunteering. We want to build on these connections and make it easier for people to get together and support each other.

“Alvanley Family Practice Health Champions in Woodley are one great example of how by working together, we can be stronger together. This health and wellbeing group was formed by the Medical Practice, public health workers and volunteers joining together, with some funding from Stockport Local Fund, to develop local solutions to meet local needs.

“We can all learn from one another and if we listen and talk to each other, and share resources and expertise, we can achieve more than we could on our own. When we collaborate, we thrive. Together we can build inclusive, resilient and stronger neighbourhoods.”
