Winners of Stockport Children’s Book Awards 2017
The winners of this year’s Stockport Children’s Book Awards, hosted by Stockport Libraries & Information, were announced at a special presentation event
The presentation evening was held at Edgeley Park on Wednesday 18th October, and was hosted by Craig Bradley ‘That Poetry Bloke’ poet, writer and performer.
Stockport children, aged three to 16 years old, from across the borough, read contemporary books and then voted for their favourite authors and illustrators.
The winners were:
- Emma Yarlett – Nibbles the book monster for best picture book
- Jo Cotterill – A library of lemons for best read for juniors
- Stewart Foster – The bubble boy for best teen read
The event was also attended by the Mayor and Consort of Stockport, Councillor Linda Holt and Mr Ken Holt who presented 17 Reader of the Year Awards.
Stockport Children’s Book Awards, which are now in their 22nd year, are highly regarded by the publishing industry as the winners are selected exclusively by children.
The Book Awards project is sponsored by Stockport company, Micro Librarian Systems Limited.
Councillor Dean Fitzpatrick, Cabinet Member for Education, said: “Last night was a great success, and it was wonderful to see all these amazing awards being handed out. Reading is a crucial part in growing up and is great to see all of the children who got involved.”
