Use Stockport libraries when it's more convenient for you
Many of our libraries are now equipped with self-service technology allowing you to access them outside times when staff are present.
So, you can pick up reserved items, borrow and return books, or use the library computers or free Wi-Fi when it’s more convenient for you. Open+ will once again be available at Bramhall, Cheadle Hulme, Hazel Grove, Heatons, High Lane and Marple libraries and is being introduced at Bredbury, Cheadle and Heald Green.
Councillor David Sedgwick, Cabinet Member for Citizen Focus and Engagement says: “Libraries are at the heart of our communities, and we have listened to our residents when they say they want to be able to use them for longer. I’m delighted that the introduction of Open+ technology at many of our libraries will extend the opening hours, allowing people to use their library when it’s more convenient for them, including evenings and Sundays. As well as borrowing books they will also have more time to use our upgraded free-to-use computers and free Wi-Fi to access the internet, or to use community meeting spaces.”
If you’d like to use your library for longer, you’ll need to register. Call into one of the Open+ libraries with proof of identity and proof of address and take an Open+ tour of the library. If you’re one of the 3,000 people who’ve already registered for Open+, there’s no need to register again.
Open+ will soon be available at 9 Stockport libraries: Bramhall, Bredbury, Cheadle, Cheadle Hulme, Hazel Grove, Heatons, Heald Green, High Lane, and Marple. After registering you can use Open+ facilities at any library where you’ve taken an induction tour. Visitors using the libraries in Open+ mode will find them brightly lit and welcoming, with the added reassurance of monitored CCTV coverage. Visit our Open+ web pages for more information.
Library staff are still available to assist you at other times, for example, if you need digital skills support or to use the printing/scanning facilities. Some staffed opening hours have changed, based on what people have told us they want, and each library will have at least one day staffed until 6pm. Visit our web pages for our opening times.
