Up to £1,000 available to open Stockport buildings as warm spaces

Stockport's popular warm spaces scheme returns for this winter.

Up to £1,000 available to open Stockport buildings as warm spaces

Following the phenomenal response from the Stockport communities last year, Stockport Council is providing grants of up to £1,000 through the One Stockport Local Fund to open buildings as a warm space.

The warm space fund is now open will be accepting applications until 31st December.

The council is funding these warm spaces alongside our regular public buildings such as leisure centres, libraries and community centres. Libraries will be hubs of advice, information and guidance where warm spaces local to that library can signpost residents for further support.

Councillor Jilly Julian, Cabinet Member for Finance and Resources at Stockport Council, commented: “We want to make sure that all our residents have a place they can keep warm this winter, and know how to access vital information and advice to get the support they need during this cost-of-living crisis. I know how important and appreciated warm spaces were during the winter of 2022/23, so we want to make sure we keep a similar offering as part of our winter planning this year.”

“That’s why we want to make sure that our voluntary, community and faith groups have access to the resources they need, through Spend Well Live Well grants, Town of Culture grants and now, Warm Spaces funding. If you’re a local organisation who could help to keep Stockport residents warm and well this winter, we want to hear from you. We are keen to hear from new organisations as well as warm spaces from last year who want to build on their success.”

This is part of a wide range of measures being put in place by the council and its partners to support residents to keep warm and well through the winter.
Residents can access advice and information on the cost-of-living online hub or by calling the cost-of-living helpline on 0161 474 2140. Lines are open Monday – Friday, 9.30am – 4pm.
