Stockport’s Summer Reading Challenge is back!

Stockport’s Summer Reading Challenge is back for 2022, and it’s the perfect way to get your children reading over the school holidays.

Stockport’s Summer Reading Challenge is back!

The challenge starts on Saturday 23rd July, and this year you can meet the Gadgeteers!

Delivered in partnership with the Reading Agency, this year’s challenge is a joint venture between libraries and the Science Museum Group. Stockport Libraries will be inviting children aged 4-11 to take part in a special science-themed challenge, designed to stretch the imagination and spark curiosity about the wider world. With resources and activities from the Science Museum Group, the Challenge focuses on inspiring children to see the science and innovation behind everyday objects, showing that reading and science are for everyone. There will also be lots of great events taking place in Stockport Libraries throughout the duration of the challenge.

Children should read six books to complete the challenge, with stickers collected along the way, and a special medal and certificate for those who complete the challenge. Any six books can be chosen, but if you’re struggling for inspiration, the Summer Reading Challenge website has got you covered.

Councillor Grace Baynham, Cabinet Member for Highways, Parks and Leisure Services, commented: “The Summer Reading Challenge in Stockport Libraries is a fantastic way to help stop the summer holidays reading dip, and inspire your children to read for pleasure. We all know how amazing it can feel to get lost in a good book, so why not take on the Summer Reading Challenge? There are resources and activities available for everyone, and best of all: it’s completely free. Pop in to your local Stockport library to sign up today!”
