Stockport’s SEND Week of Action

The week will highlight SEN Support and Early Help of Stockport’s children and young people with Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

Leaders in the borough will be raising awareness for the ‘SEND Week of Action’, which is taking place between November 22 and 26. This Week of Action, the Council and its partners will be focussing on SEN Support and Early Help by offering a range of webinars and activities.

Cllr Colin Foster, Cabinet Member for Children, Family Services and Education said: “I urge everybody to get involved regardless of your profession or background. Understanding how living with SEND impacts our most vulnerable members of society and understanding how the smallest things can have a huge impact is something that everyone can take away with them.”

Chris McLoughlin, Director of Children’s Services said: “From Monday 22nd to Friday 26th November 2021, a number of services will be hosting webinars to raise awareness of support and services for 0 to 25 year olds with SEND. There will also be activities to raise awareness of support for their families as well as professionals who work with them directly or indirectly. More details and the full programme can be viewed on Eventbrite. Let’s continue to make SEND everybody’s business.”

Andrea Green, Chief Accountable Officer for NHS Stockport CCG said: “We are clear that SEND is everyone’s business. I am delighted to offer my support and commitment to the Stockport SEND Week of Action. The lived experience of our SEND community has been crucial in reaching this point of our journey, and we will continue to learn from what they tell us and ensure their voices influence our work and developments.”
