Stockport's Chosen Family Album: be part of our story!

Stockroom, opening next year in the heart of Stockport’s town centre, will be a vibrant creative and cultural centre, a place for getting together, getting involved, or simply popping by for a brew. As we prepare for opening, we’re inviting the people of Stockport to help create a Chosen Family Album, to be unveiled at the launch in Spring 2025.

We want to celebrate the rich diversity of people living in Stockport today and we’re inviting you to share your family photos—from as far back as 1970, when Stockport’s iconic shopping centre first opened, to the present day.

You can define family in whatever way is meaningful to you, from treasured snapshots of the past to modern portraits, this is your chance to see yourself and your family as part of a shared story of Stockport.

Join us for our first scanning day on Saturday 23rd November, 11am – 3pm, at Merseyway Shopping Centre Mall. Bring your cherished photos to be digitised and added to Stockport's Chosen Family Album. If you prefer to focus on the present, come along and have your portrait taken to become part of this exciting project and Stockport’s history.

Cllr Frankie Singleton, Cabinet Member for Communities, Culture and Sport at Stockport Council, said: “Stockport's Chosen Family Album is all about celebrating the incredible people and stories that make Stockport so special. I’d encourage everyone to get involved in this exciting project and help create a special piece of art that will be proudly displayed in Stockroom.

“I can’t wait for Stockroom to open next year so residents and visitors can get involved in arts and crafts, enjoy live music and performances, learn a new skill and have access to cutting-edge learning and IT facilities.”
