Grand Départ GB has launched an exciting poster design competition, inviting further and higher education students in host areas to design the official posters for each stage of the historic races. With Stockport set to play a key role in the celebrations, students studying art, design, graphics, photography and creative courses at local colleges are encouraged to get involved.
A global opportunity for local talent
Each year, the Tour de France and Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift are represented by official posters that become part of the identity of the races. These posters are traditionally revealed in Paris and used throughout the event across promotional materials, digital channels and roadside displays.
For 2027, Britain will design the posters for both races, marking the first time the men’s and women’s Grand Départs have taken place in the same country outside France. That opportunity is now being opened up to students, with two winning designs selected to represent this historic moment when the Tour comes to the UK.
Paul Richards, Deputy Chief Executive, Stockport Council
This is a fantastic opportunity for students to advance their creative careers while showcasing the amazing talent we have here in Stockport. Being part of the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift is something truly special for our borough, and this competition gives local young people the chance to be directly involved in a world famous event, celebrate a historic moment for Stockport and help create an iconic piece of artwork that leaves a lasting legacy across our communities and on the world stage.
Part of something bigger
The competition is part of JOY, the Grand Départ GB 2027 social impact programme, which aims to inspire communities, celebrate creativity and make sure as many people as possible can be part of the excitement when the Tour comes to Britain.
More creative opportunities for local people and communities will be announced as the 2027 Grand Départ gets closer.
Expert judges and a Paris reveal
An expert panel led by award winning artist and former graphic designer Lucy Pittaway will judge the entries. Shortlisted designs will be sent to race organisers ASO, who will select the final winning posters.
The two winning students will be invited to Paris in October 2026 for the official unveiling of their work and will also enjoy a hospitality experience at one of the British stages in 2027.
Lucy Pittaway said she was delighted to support emerging talent:
“Art has a wonderful power to capture the energy and emotion of these iconic races. Supporting students as they interpret such a historic moment for cycling across Britain is incredibly exciting.”
