Stockport marks Carers Rights Day

Last updated: 18 November 2025

This national awareness day shines a light on the dedication of carers who go above and beyond every day to support their loved ones.

This year’s theme, ‘Know Your Rights, Use Your Rights’, encourages carers to be informed and empowered. To support this message, a new website has been launched bringing together information and support for carers in one place, available 24/7. Created by carers, for carers, the digital space offers practical guidance, links to local services, and insights drawn from lived experience, ensuring carers across Stockport feel informed, supported, and valued.

Cllr Helen Foster Grime, Cabinet Member for Communities, Culture and Sport, said: “Carers are the backbone of our community, they are our unsung heroes who go above and beyond to support loved ones. We have listened to our valued carers’ experiences and worked together to create a resource that truly meets their needs.

"The new website is a testament to the power of collaboration and the importance of putting carers’ voices at the heart of everything we do. On Carers Rights Day, we want every carer in Stockport to know that support is available, and their contribution is recognised, valued and celebrated.”

Bethan Kelly, CEO of Signpost for Carers said, “Carers Rights Day is an important reminder that unpaid carers deserve recognition, respect and real support. Every day, carers give so much of themselves to look after others, it’s vital they know their rights and have access to the information and services that can make their lives a little easier.”

“These new webpages are a fantastic step forward in making support more accessible to carers across our community. It brings together practical information, advice, and connections in one easy-to-use place, helping carers find what they need, when they need it. We’re proud to work with the council and other partners to make sure every carer feels informed, valued, and supported.”

The Information and Support for carers website was developed in partnership with:

  • Stockport Council
  • The Carers Partnership Board
  • Signpost for Carers
  • Age UK Stockport
  • Stockport Advocacy
  • Healthwatch Stockport
  • Local healthcare professionals, charities, and community groups

These partners have all contributed to the content, outreach, and ongoing support, ensuring it reflects the real needs and experiences of carers in Stockport. The site is now live and accessible to all carers in Stockport, including unpaid, informal, young, and family carers. It features advice, signposting to local services, and stories from carers themselves.

Carers play a vital role in our community. Not only can carers visit the new web pages but they can also come and visit Signpost for Carers at a stall at Adlington Way, Merseyway on Thursday 20 November where they will be helping carers to know their rights.

Signpost for Carers is also running the following sessions:

Working Carers Information Evening - November 18, 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
