Stockport Local Heritage Library Achieves National Accreditation
Stockport Heritage Library has been awarded Archive Service Accreditation.
The national Accredited Archive Service scheme ensures the long-term collection, preservation and accessibility of our archive heritage. Accreditation is the UK quality standard which recognises good performance in all areas of archive service delivery. Achieving accredited status demonstrates that the Stockport Heritage Library has met clearly defined national standards relating to management and resourcing; the care of and access to its unique collections and what the service offers to users.
Stockport Heritage Library has been externally recognised for good performance in all aspects of governance and management, collections management, and provision of services to all users, sustainable and robust, ensuring the long term acquisition, preservation and accessibility of Stockport’s archive heritage
The Accreditation Panel ‘welcomed the strategic support for the service and Stockport Council's recognition of the value of its heritage offer’
Councillor Elise Wilson, Cabinet Member for Reform and Governance said “Achieving this award is a great honour, helping ensure the preservation of items of interest and importance for future generations. The importance of heritage and archives in creating a sense of place and telling the narrative of the history of the town, its people and their stories cannot be overestimated.
