Stockport Local Fund supports ‘Wellbeing’ Allotment in Woodley
Official opening of Alvanley Family Practise Health Champions 'Wellbeing Allotment' in Woodley by Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham
Alvanley Family Practise Health Champions, a health and wellbeing group in Woodley, are one of the many local organisations who recently received a grant from Stockport Local Fund. The group have introduced “Wellbeing Prescriptions” encouraging patients to participate in a variety of activities including an allotment renovated by volunteers. The grant from Stockport Local Fund will enable them to build a multi-purpose community space on the allotment, introduce new activities and help even more people.
The project was officially opened by Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham who commented: “This Alvanley Family Practice project is absolutely amazing and shows us what modern healthcare can be all about. We all love the NHS but if it is to survive in the future it needs to do more than just providing medication.”
Group member Dave Chorlton said: “The improvements we can make with this award will make a huge difference to the whole community at Woodley. The Wellbeing Prescription is the only wellbeing tool like it in the country and by using this we’ve already reduced the need for non-medical problems by 30% at our practice.”
Stockport Local Fund opens again for applications in June. Everyone can apply for up to £10,000 per project. The online application process is quick and easy. - you can even submit it on your mobile phone!
