Stockport hits 365 defibrillators with new life-saving device at Lancashire Hill

Thanks to the determination of 22-year-old fundraiser Aidan Jackson, alongside Stockport Council and broadband provider BRSK. With this new addition, the total number of defibrillators in Stockport rises to 365.

The defibrillator will be installed at Stonemill Terrace, an apartment building operated by Stockport Homes, providing crucial access to emergency heart treatment for residents and the wider community.

Aidan Jackson, a passionate and seasoned fundraiser supported by his Mum, Caroline, has already placed 35 defibrillators across Halton, Cheshire. With funding from BRSK and collaboration with Stockport Council, Stockport Homes and the local community, he's expanding his life-saving mission into Stockport.

Aidan Jackson said: “I'm thrilled BRSK and the Stockport community have supported me in bringing a device to an area where many people live. Having these devices in key locations like Stonemill Terrace is vital, you never know when someone might need it and using a defibrillator within 3 to 5 minutes of a cardiac arrest can increase the chance of survival by 50 to 70%."

Councillor Keith Holloway, Cabinet Member for Health and Adult Social Care at Stockport Council, praised the initiative: "It's fantastic to see the Lancashire Hill community benefiting from this life-saving defibrillator. This is an important step in ensuring our residents have quick access to the equipment they need in an emergency. We're proud to support these efforts and encourage others to get involved in making Stockport a safer place for all."

Steve Partridge, Chair of Stockport Homes Board, added: "We are proud to partner with Stockport Council to install a 24-hour accessible defibrillator in Lancashire Hill, ensuring that life-saving equipment is available to the community whenever it is needed. This initiative reflects our ongoing commitment to the safety and well-being of local residents."

The defibrillator will be located on the outer wall of the apartment block. It will be hardwired into the electrical supply and housed in a secure, weather-resistant cabinet that ensures the device is always ready for use. A commemorative plaque will be installed above the unit to mark this significant addition to the community. No training is required to operate this life-saving device.

The device is being unveiled during Heart Month and continues to expand the availability of defibrillators across the borough. This will contribute to the One Stockport One Future plan's ambition to make Stockport a happy and healthy place to live for everyone.

You can learn CPR and how to use a defibrillator by doing the British Heart Foundation’s RevivR online training course. It takes just 15 minutes to complete and all you need is a mobile phone or tablet and a cushion.
