Stockport Council take on Krazy Races!
Totally Stockport’s Krazy Races is coming to the town centre on 28th May.
Think Soapbox Challenge: it’s set to be a fantastic free day out for all the family.
Stockport Council are hoping their entry, themed around the local authority’s Climate Action Now work, will take top spot on the podium in what is sure to be a hotly contested race between thirty strong teams. It is hoped the cart will raise awareness of the importance of joining together to tackle climate change and make Stockport a greener borough.
The Krazy Races event is set to bring thousands of people to the town centre, and should be a great event for the town, with the council supporting local businesses in the development of its cart, which has been created in partnership with George Cox and Plastic Shed.
The council’s Krazy Races cart has been designed and the project led on by the local authority’s team of apprentices from across the organisation. The council is proud of its inclusive employment policy, which offers opportunities for learning on the job via its diverse apprenticeship schemes.
As part of the entry, Stockport Council is fundraising for Krazy Races’ official charity, When You Wish Upon a Star, as well as the Mayor’s Charity, which this year has been selected as the Stockport Sea Cadets. Both charities do fantastic work to create opportunities for children and young people in the borough.
If you would like to donate to support these charities, you can do so via the JustGiving page.
Caroline Simpson, Chief Executive at Stockport Council, commented: “We’re so proud that Krazy Races have chosen Stockport town centre to host this year’s event: it should be a really great day for the town with a brilliant atmosphere.
It’s free to watch, so make sure you bring the family on 28th May and see how the council cart gets on!”
“Climate Action Now is such an important part of the work we do in Stockport, and we wanted to showcase this via our entry to this year’s race. Keep an eye on our social media for sneak peaks before the grand reveal of our cart!”
“If you would like to donate to these two worthy charities, please use the JustGiving page. Any donation, big or small, is much appreciated!”
