Stockport Council gifts £60,000 to Sector 3 JustGiving campaign

Stockport Council has gifted a donation of £60,000 to Sector 3's JustGiving campaign this winter.

Recently, the Leader of the Council Councillor Mark Hunter and Chief Executive Caroline Simpson wrote an open letter to advocate partnership working to help with the cost of living crisis. In response Sector 3 have launched a JustGiving campaign to support the most vulnerable residents.

To get the campaign started, Stockport Council has made a donation of £60,000 to help support Stockport food network. The money will be distributed down as follows:

  • £15,000 to Stockport food bank
  • £5,000 to Chelwood food bank
  • £5,000 to The Wellspring
  • £2,500 to Marple food bank
  • £2,500 to Gatley foodbank
  • £20,000 to Stockport Homes pantries

The remaining £10,000 will be given to the wider food network for other members to receive additional grants to support their work. The donations will help the voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise sector and be a lifeline for organisations in Stockport who do vital work to support residents who are struggling for food and other essentials.

Councillor Mark Hunter said: “We know that working in partnership is so important in terms of mobilising the best response for our residents to the cost of living crisis. By donating money to Sector 3, our trusted partners, we know that the funding will go to organisations who provide vital support to our residents. I’m really proud that the council has made this donation to the JustGiving campaign, and hope that the food network will be supported even more in their essential services to families in need, particularly at this time of year when budgets are stretched.”

The Sector 3 JustGiving page remains open for donations. Just a £5 donation can help to provide a food parcel to a vulnerable family this Christmas. To donate, visit the JustGiving page.
