Stockport Council and partners scoop national award for anti-poverty work

The Resolve Poverty Awards celebrate the people, organisations and networks playing a significant role in tackling poverty in local areas and regions across the country.

The award win recognises the Council’s and its partners work to maximise the financial resources available to households.

Through working collectively together, since April 2023, over 59,000 residents have received advice and support, over £3m of debt has been written off and since August 2023 residents have accessed around £17m through new benefit awards.

Councillor Jilly Julian, Cabinet Member for Finance and Resources at Stockport Council, said: “This is fantastic acknowledgment for our council team and partners who work tirelessly in these areas to help our residents. To get this national recognition for the hard work they put in day in, day out to improve people’s lives is wonderful and well-deserved.

“We know that times are difficult, and we constantly looking for ways to help residents and communities, and provide support that really makes a difference – and this award success shows that we’re doing just that.”
