Stockport Community Nurse awarded with prestigious Queen’s Nurse title

Sarah Turner, who works as Health Protection Service Lead and Nurse Consultant in a career spanning almost 30 years, has been given the title of Queen’s Nurse which is granted by the Queen’s Nursing Institute for those delivering and leading outstanding care in communities.

After putting forward a 5,000-word submission as well as four supporting statements from senior colleagues, Sarah got the good news last month that she had met the stringent criteria and had been successful. She will officially be honoured with the award on 29 November at a ceremony at London’s Millennium Gloucester Hotel.

Sarah has worked in her role at Stockport Council since 2009 and gets a great deal of satisfaction from improving the lives of residents. Sarah said: “My role is really varied, I deal with everything from managing an infection outbreak to planning a new vaccination rollout, for example the new RSV vaccine that helps protect against respiratory syncytial virus, a common virus that can make babies and older adults seriously ill.” Sarah also stresses how crucial it is for those who are eligible to get their flu jab this year to prevent themselves and those around them becoming seriously ill.

Sarah continued: “It's really rewarding to know that I am making a difference to Stockport residents’ health and providing them with the best possible care. Being honoured with the Queens Title after nearly 30 years in nursing and this recognition really means a lot to me.”

Cllr Keith Holloway, Cabinet Member for Health and Adult Social Care at Stockport Council, said: “A huge congratulations to Sarah who works tirelessly to put our residents at the heart of what she does and gives them the opportunity to live healthy and happy lives. This award isn’t given out lightly, so this is a fantastic achievement. Thank you to Sarah for everything you do and your dedication and commitment to the people of Stockport.”
