Stockport Children’s Book Awards Returns for 2024!

Attention all book enthusiasts! The highly anticipated Stockport Children’s Book Awards are making a return for 2024.

Stockport Children’s Book Awards Returns for 2024!

Stockport Libraries will be announcing the complete shortlisted titles on Monday 5 February.

The primary goal of the Stockport Children’s Book Awards is to encourage a love for reading and ignite that passion to continue to read amongst children in Stockport, by introducing them to a variety of fantastic, shortlisted books.

The Book Awards feature three distinct categories: Best Picture Book, Best Read for Juniors, and Best Read for Upper Juniors. Each category contains three outstanding titles from UK authors and the shortlisted books for the 2024 competition have been carefully chosen to challenge, inspire, and create excitement at school.

Stockport libraries are now encouraging schools to sign up to take part in the 2024 Awards with their special 2024 offer package, which contains a copy of each of the shortlisted titles, fun educational resources, bookmarks, activity sheets and lesson plans, as well as the chance for students to enter an art competition to win their height in books. On top of this, schools will be able to arrange a virtual author visit and be given the chance to crown their ‘Reader of the Year’, who will receive a special invitation to the grand prize-giving ceremony on 25 June!

New for 2024, schools will also be able to get priority access to the Teacher’s BorrowBox programme, to utilise eBooks and e-Audiobooks in the classroom, as well as enjoy a free silent disco experience at school. All of this for a nominal fee of only £75!

School sign-ups will close on the 9 March, so make sure to encourage your school to sign up and take part in this year’s awards.

You can catch a glimpse of the excitement from last year’s ceremony in this video, which showcases how important it is to inspire a love of reading from a young age.

Cllr Frankie Singleton, Cabinet Member for Communities, Culture & Sport at Stockport Council, said “I’m thrilled that the Stockport Children’s Book Awards are returning for 2024, as it is a fantastic opportunity for us all to come together and foster a lifelong love for reading among children in Stockport.

I look forward to celebrating with our grand award ceremony in June to crown our ‘Readers of the Year’, and I encourage as many schools as possible to sign up and get involved. The Book Awards are a perfect way to collectively champion the cause of literacy, with something for everyone to enjoy with a wide range of titles aimed at KS1 through to KS3. Through the Stockport Children’s Book Awards we can help to shape a future where a love for reading can become an enduring legacy in Stockport”.
