Stockport Celebrates LGBT History Month
Stockport’s Library service has joined with People Like Us Stockport (PLUS) social group to celebrate Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) History Month in the borough.
The month celebrates the lives and achievements of the world’s LGBT community and the Council’s Central Library is hosting a number of free events celebrating the history of Stockport’s LGBT community.
Councillor David Sedgwick, LGBT+ champion for Stockport Council, said: “LGBT history month is a very important time in the LGBT calendar and I am delighted that our library service have collaborated with the LGBT community in putting on a number of free events and book display in our Central Library.”
Mystery History Workshop Sat. 10th Feb. 13.00pm - 3.30pm Stockport Central Library
Gill Rossini, Rainbow Historian will share some of the previously undiscovered history of the LGBT community in Stockport with a workshop to follow. Tea and Cake will be provided.

PLUS Film Club Launch at Stockport Plaza Pride film showing Fri 16th Feb 7pm till late
Pride tells the real life fascinating story of how LGBT radical activists created an alliance with miners from South Wales during the 1980s miners’ strike. There will also be a guest appearance and talk from Mike Jackson who was one of the inspirations for the film.

First set original songs by Taylor & friends. The second set will be covers designed to encourage people to get up and dance to truly celebrate the end of LGBT History Month.
