As part of England's largest festival of history and culture, Heritage Open Days offers unique opportunities to explore some of Stockport's most fascinating historic buildings, landmarks and heritage sites, while uncovering stories from the borough’s past.

Thousands of free events take place across England each year during the festival, and Stockport's programme includes special experiences led by local heritage experts.

One of the highlights is Hatting Bites for Heritage Open Days at Hat Works. These free, bite-sized tours offer visitors the chance to hear fascinating snippets of hatting history that aren't included on regular museum tours. Led by Hat Works' knowledgeable guides, the sessions provide a deeper insight into Stockport's industrial heritage and the stories that continue to shape the town today.

Residents can also join the Heritage Open Day Stockport Stroll, a free one-hour guided walk beginning at Stockport War Memorial Art Gallery. The route takes in several of the town's standout architectural landmarks, including Stopford House, Hat Works and Alan Boyson's iconic Merseyway car park screen, before finishing at Stockroom. Visitors will also have the opportunity to explore the Marvel from Marple exhibition and learn more about Stockport's history and the development of Merseyway.

Stockport Town Hall is excited to once again open its doors to celebrate Heritage Open Days. Come and find the devils head, discover the Wedding Cake and view our function spaces that have been used for filming locations such as Peaky Blinders, Brassic, The Bay and BBC Question Time.

Cllr Dan Oliver, Cabinet Member for Communities, Culture and Public Protection at Stockport Council, said:

"Heritage Open Days are a fantastic opportunity for residents and visitors alike to discover the stories, people and places that have helped shape Stockport. Whether you're learning about our world-famous hatting industry or exploring some of our most iconic buildings and landmarks, there is something for everyone to enjoy. Best of all, these events are free and offer a unique chance to connect with our borough's rich heritage."
