Cllr Mark Hunter, Leader of Stockport Council, said: "It is with great sadness that we learn of the passing of Andrew Bennett, a former Member of Parliament for Stockport North and Denton and Reddish, who spent 31 years dedicating much of his life to the people of our town and beyond.
“Andrew was a tireless advocate for his constituents and worked passionately on issues that mattered to many, including social justice, public services, and the wellbeing of communities. His legacy in Stockport will be remembered not only for his political achievements but also for his commitment to making a real difference to the lives of those he served.
“As an MP, Andrew's integrity, humility, and strong sense of duty earned him the respect of many, both in Parliament and throughout our communities.
“On behalf of Stockport Council, I would like to extend my deepest condolences to Andrew's family, friends, and all who knew him. He will be greatly missed, and our thoughts are with his loved ones at this difficult time."
