Saturday 8th March is International Women’s Day (IWD) and Stockport Council is encouraging people across the borough to come together and challenge gender inequality.

The theme of this year’s IWD is ’accelerate action’ towards gender equality. With the latest GM4Women2028 Pankhurst-Fawcett scorecard data, revealed at an event at Edgeley Park last month, telling us that inequality is still the reality for many women across Greater Manchester, it’s a powerful topic for the community to tackle together.

There are events taking place across Stockport where people can come together and make a difference, as well as celebrate the social, political and cultural achievements in the borough. These include:

County Business Club celebrates International Women's Day
Hardcastle Lounge, Edgeley Park | Friday 7th March | 11am – 1pm

Celebrate the achievements of inspiring women in and around Stockport at the quarterly County Business Club. Hear from some of our brilliant local female business owners and entrepreneurs, ask your questions and celebrate success. Find out more about the County Business Club here.

Hatting Walk of Stockport
Hatworks | Friday 7th March | 9.30am – 12noon

Hat Works’ Sue guides you to the places in Stockport where hats were made. She will share her family hatting herstory, alongside other hatting heroes Sarah Ward, Elsie Plant. Join us to celebrate inspiring hatting women past and present. Route includes some inclines and uneven pavements. Find out more and book a ticket.

International Women’s Day Coffee Morning with Stockport Armed Forces
Hazel Grove Civic Hall | Saturday 8th March | 11am – 2pm

Women who have served in HM Armed Forces and their female family members are welcome to join this coffee morning for activities, conversation and cake.
