Restaurant Grant Programme Returns for 2025

Independent hospitality businesses across Stockport can apply for a grant of £11,000

Restaurant Grant Programme Returns for 2025

Independent hospitality businesses in Stockport who are focused on supporting their local community are being invited to apply for a grant of £11,000 to support their business. The grant programme will support venues owned or operated by underrepresented or economically vulnerable members of the community. This might include those experiencing hardship, ethnic minority, LGBTQIA+ or disabled people.

The Association of Town and City Management and IDA Foundation are working with all Greater Manchester Local Authorities to distribute the funds to great businesses who are doing fantastic things locally. The American Express initiative will see a total of 20 eligible restaurants of community significance across both Greater Manchester and London each receive a grant to enhance their business operations and diner experience.

Last year’s programme saw local success, with The Italian in Romiley among the recipients of the grant. This independent restaurant used the funding to enhance its operations and improve the customer experience, demonstrating the meaningful impact this support can have for community-focused food businesses.

This year, 20 eligible food businesses will receive grants of £11,000 each to support critical business improvements that enhance long-term sustainability. Eligible projects could include digital upgrades, outdoor dining spaces, new equipment, or other essential physical enhancements.

Cllr Micheala Meikle, Cabinet Member for Economy, Regeneration & Skills at Stockport Council, said: "This grant programme is a fantastic opportunity for our local hospitality sector. Stockport has a vibrant and diverse food scene, and many businesses go above and beyond to support their communities. I encourage eligible venues to apply and take advantage of this funding to help secure their future."

Mark Ross, Chief Executive of Totally Stockport, added: “It is great to see the American Express Grant Programme has returned for 2025. We hope that many of our town centre cafes and restaurant businesses will opt to apply for these grants and make use of these small but essential cash injections. If you need some support applying for these funds do get in touch with the Totally Stockport team and we will do what we can to help!”

To qualify, the grant must be used towards critical business needs that support the restaurant for long-term sustainability. Potential uses could include improvements needed to sustain business operations such as enhancing digital capabilities, building outdoor dining spaces, purchasing new equipment, and making other physical improvements.
