Poundland to move into its new Stockport home
New store is part of massive council regeneration scheme
A brand new Poundland will open at 9.00am this Saturday (3 August) in Stockport, in another milestone for the council’s £1bn regeneration plans for the vibrant town centre.
Poundland, which will proudly take its place in the refurbished former BHS store in Merseyway shopping centre, will have the most up-to-date ranges the discount store can offer.
The 9,000 sq ft store will offer chilled and frozen food, a full range of Pepco clothing for women, men and kids plus Poundland’s new Pepco Home general merchandise ranges.
Nationwide, the discount retailer has finished a complete overhaul of its general merchandise ranges that has seen it introduce 2,000 new lines across all its UK and Irish stores and those up to date ranges will also be available in Stockport.
And the new Stockport store will open on the first day of Poundland’s all-new ‘Grand in Your Hand’ promotion that will see 30 of its luckiest customers right across the UK win £1,000 for each of the following 30 days. Thirty customers chosen at random will receive an instant cash prize when they pay at any of the discounter’s 3,000 manned checkouts in any of its 750-plus UK stores.
Replacing its existing store at Warren Street which closes on Friday, Poundland is delighted to be able to move into the completely refurbished unit in the heart of Stockport, breathing new life into the former BHS store.
“We promised a store the town could be proud of and we’ve worked hard to deliver it,” said Poundland retail director Alan Smallman.
“We’re thrilled to be moving into our new Stockport home. We know how hard the local council is working to bring new opportunities and vibrancy to the centre of Stockport and we’re pleased to be able to play a small part with our new location.”
Cllr Colin MacAlister, Cabinet Member for Economy and Regeneration at Stockport Council, said: “With the decline of many of our much-loved department stores over the years, town centres across the country are facing the issue of having large vacant units on their hands. The opening of Poundland’s new flagship store in our town centre demonstrates a renewed confidence in Stockport and I wish them every success.
“With improved public realm at Merseyway, a new Innovation Centre, as well as a new transport interchange and Stockroom, an exciting new space for creativity, discovery and inspiration due to open soon, the town centre is thriving.”
Victoria Nichol, Centre Manager at Merseyway said: “We’re excited to welcome Poundland to their new home amongst our vibrant community of retailers. “This brand new flagship store brings a brilliant range of products and fantastic value to our shoppers, enhancing the diverse retail experience Merseyway is known for.
“We look forward to seeing the positive impact Poundland will have on our centre.”
From cookware to candles, cushions to containers, toys to technology, Poundland customers, including in Stockport now have access to ranges that will make their house a home. And because Poundland now has access to the same ranges on offer in Pepco’s 4,800-plus stores across Europe, it is able to double down on its promise of amazing value to customers.
Examples from the range include the kitchenware starting at £1.25, beautiful bathroom décor from 50p and practical and convenient containers from 75p. There’s also a full range of faux plants and other home décor ranges from mirrors to mugs, coasters to cutlery and towels to tablecloths.
The introduction of the new home ranges follows a range revolution in clothing that saw the introduction of clothing powered by Pepco and the reconfiguration of its stores to offer more baby and kids clothing than ever before.
Like its new home décor ranges, that range expansion in kidswear allows Poundland to deliver on its promise of amazing value it makes to its customers.
On average, the move to a Poundland clothing range powered by Pepco has enabled the discount retailer to reduce average selling clothing prices by up to 20 per cent per cent as it takes advantage of the scale of Pepco Group’s 4,800-plus stores across Europe.
Over the past five years, Poundland has revamped its ranges. Other new categories alongside clothing and homewares, which will also be available in Stockport, include chilled and frozen food giving customers an alternative to supermarkets.
