Postal voters urged to send back votes promptly to avoid the planned Royal Mail strike on 13 October

Stockport residents with postal votes for the Edgeley and Cheadle Heath by-election encouraged to return their completed voting pack by post as soon as possible

Stockport residents with postal votes for the Edgeley and Cheadle Heath by-election on Thursday 13 October are being encouraged to return their completed voting pack by post as soon as possible and no later than Tuesday 11 October, to ensure it arrives and can be counted. A strike by Royal Mail workers is planned for Thursday 13 October, the date of the by-election.

Postal voting packs have already been sent out 1st class to all postal voters in Edgeley and Cheadle Heath ward.

Caroline Simpson, Chief Executive and Returning Officer at Stockport Council, said: “Due to the planned strike action on the day of the poll, we strongly encourage postal voters to return their postal votes as soon as possible.

“As strike action is due to take place on polling day any votes posted the day prior to polling day will not be received by the Returning Officer by the close of poll. Legally, postal votes that arrive back to us after 10pm on polling day cannot be counted.”

Completed postal vote packs can also be handed in on polling day between 7am and 10pm at any polling station in Edgeley and Cheadle Heath ward.

Postal vote packs can also be handed in to the council offices at the Elections Office, Room 132, Stockport Town Hall, Edward Street, Stockport, SK1 3XE, during office hours (9am to 5pm) on the days leading up the poll and at any time up until 10pm on polling day.
