The partnership initiative involving Stockport Council, Greater Manchester Police, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, Stockport County, Transport for Greater Manchester and others, swung in to action at the start of the summer and was set-up to reduce crime across our town centre and communities.
Councillor Dan Oliver, Cabinet Member for Communities, Culture and Public Protection at Stockport Council, said: “Safe4Summer has been running throughout the past few months here in Stockport. Extra patrols - including mounted officers – have been targeting crime and anti-social behaviour hot spots, whilst licensing and council teams work closely with Greater Manchester Police and other partners to tackle issues that matter to residents and businesses.
“The work will continue throughout the year with more events, activities and action planned to protect people – including Operation Treacle, which is part our Warm and Well initiative, which helps communities stay safe during and in the run up to Halloween and Bonfire Night.”
Following the launch of the Safe4Summer campaign, some of the activity that took place included:
• Stepping Up Safety: Uniformed officers have been making their presence known in key hotspots, cracking down on retail crime and anti-social behaviour to keep Stockport safe. 87 Arrests made and 4 Criminal Behaviour Orders secured resulting in a reduction of recorded crime of 45% in the area.
• Foundation 92’s Activity Bus: The Foundation 92 team rolled into town with their vibrant converted bus, transforming Stockport’s centre into a buzzing hub of fun and support for young people.
• Mounted Patrols in Action: GMP’s mounted officers have been out and about in the town centre, offering visible reassurance and tackling anti-social behaviour head-on.
• Hatters in the Community: Over 200 local children took part in interactive safety workshops at Edgeley Park, thanks to Stockport County Community Trust’s engaging Hatters in the Community events.
• Youth Safety Workshops: In July, 42 young people joined forces with Stockport Youth Justice, GMP, and Fire & Rescue to learn about knife crime, water safety, and anti-social behaviour.
• R-Time, have delivered detached youth work and activities in specific anti-social behaviour hotspot areas and across the borough. This breaks down as 150 sessions, 450 hours of engagement and working with 3,878 young people.
• Operation Fearless: Young people can now share information about crime completely anonymously through Fearless, a Crimestoppers initiative—no personal details needed. Go to Crimestoppers or call 0800 555 111.
• Travelsafe Partnership: We’re working with Transport for Greater Manchester to make public transport safer, promoting easy, round-the-clock ways to report anti-social behaviour.
• Bee in the Loop - Bee in the Loop: Residents stay in the know with regular updates on local policing activities through Bee in the Loop – keeps residents updated with policing activities in their local area.
