Open+ to be installed in four more Stockport libraries
Four additional Stockport libraries will be fitted with the facilities to operate Open+ in the new year.
Open+ means that library members are able to browse, borrow and renew books, and use the PCs, all at a time more convenient to them. Library opening hours are extended without the need for staff. The new Open+ libraries join the nine existing libraries with facilities available, meaning the majority of Stockport’s libraries will now be open for longer.
Any library member can visit an Open+ library after registering: pop in to your local library to find out how. Visitors will find the facilities brightly lit and welcoming, with the added reassurance of CCTV monitoring the building at all times.
There will still be staff available to assist you at other times, and printing and photocopying services will only be available when there are staff in attendance.
To pave the way for the new facilities, each of the four libraries will need to temporarily close for a couple of weeks while the upgrade is installed. The closures have been staggered to minimise disruption to services for residents. Residents are encouraged to visit any other Stockport library during the closure period.
The dates of closures are:
Great Moor library – Closed 2pm 9th January – 10am 24th January
Edgeley library – Closed 2pm 22nd January – 10am 7th February
Reddish library – Closed 2pm 19th February – 10am 7th March
Brinnington library – Closed 2pm 5th March – 10am 21st March
Councillor David Sedgwick, Cabinet Member for Citizen Focus and Engagement at Stockport Council, commented: “It’s fantastic to have Open+ facilities installed in more libraries in the borough, as it will allow residents to access the library services they love for longer. This means people can pop in to borrow books or use the PCs after work, making the library more accessible for everyone.”
“We apologise for the inconvenience caused by the closures, but stress that this is a temporary measure and each library will reopen on the dates above. I’d like to thank all residents for their patience and understanding. Please feel free to use any other Stockport library, as these remain open (excluding One Stockport Hub which is temporarily a vaccine only centre in line with the government’s increased efforts to get everyone boosted).”
