New Stopford House piazza walking trail
Stockport Council is encouraging its employees to boost their daily activity levels by taking short walks, on a new walking trail marked out on the Stopford House piazza.
The trail is fully inclusive and offers three distances to choose from, depending on ability and time available. It includes the average steps and distance for each of the coloured routes so people can measure what they’ve done without the need for any activity tracker.
Cllr Tom McGee, Stockport Council’s Cabinet Member for Health says: “As an employer we are committed to promoting and supporting the health and wellbeing of our employees.
“We know that walking is a great form of exercise and short and regular walks can bring considerable health benefits and it’s something I’m trying to do more of myself.
“Many of our employees are office based and sedentary for long periods of time so we hope this trail will encourage them to incorporate more walking into their working day.
“The piazza is a public area so we’d also love to see the trail being used by our residents and visitors to the civic complex.”
The walking trail was created following funding from Greater Sport - Greater Manchester Sports Partnership.
