The Stockport SEND Superstars Award, developed by Stockport’s SEND Area Partnership, recognises individuals, teams, or initiatives that have gone above and beyond to support children and young people with SEND. Nominations can include anyone who has helped a child feel seen, valued, supported, and included – from teachers and support workers to community volunteers, therapy animals, or innovative projects.
Cllr Wendy Meikle, Cabinet Member for Children, Families and Education
The Stockport SEND Superstars Award is a chance to celebrate the people and moments that make a real difference to families. We know there’s more to do to improve SEND services, but it’s equally important to recognise the good that’s already happening. Everyone’s voice matters – and we’re proud to create a space where those voices and stories can be heard. This is about sharing learning and building a more inclusive community for all.
How it works:
- Every two months, a panel of partners and parent representatives (SEND Board) will select one nomination as a Stockport SEND Superstar.
- Each winner will receive a special thank-you gift and have their story shared publicly to inspire others.
- At the end of the year, all winners – along with the families who nominated them – will be invited to a Stockport SEND Superstars Celebration Event, a chance to come together, reflect on achievements, and showcase the incredible impact of Stockport’s SEND community.
The award logo is being created and selected by local young people, ensuring this initiative is truly community led. The winning design will be revealed in the New Year and will feature across all award materials – a brilliant way to put young voices at the heart of this celebration.

The Stockport SEND Superstars Award is part of the Stockport Local Area Partnership’s wider commitment to listening to families’ lived experiences and using their insights to shape services that better meet local needs. It reflects a shared belief across the partnership that, alongside ongoing improvements, we must also take time to acknowledge the positive impact being made every day.
Sherann Hillman MBE & Hayley Whitehouse, Co-Chairs of Parents and Carers Together Stockport (PACTS)
PACTS works alongside parents and carers across Stockport to listen to a wide range of experiences and views. Our role is to help share what families tell us about both what is working well and what is not, so that real improvements can be made. We are committed to amplifying lived experience, supporting positive change, and highlighting the people, teams, and services who are open to listening, learning, and making a difference for children, young people, and their families.
Stockport Council is passionate about transforming our SEND offer for local children and young people and their families. We recognise the rising demand for SEND services, and challenges that this brings to families and are working hard to meet these challenges and to ensure every student gets the support they deserve.
