New Saturday SEND Club Makes Physical Activity Accessible for Bridgehall and Adswood Children
A.C.E. is working in partnership with the Seashell Trust to deliver a 12-week programme funded by Stockport Moving Together
The programme provides access to physical activity in the Bridgehall and Adswood area for children with Special Educational Needs & Disabilities and additional needs.
15 children attend the club on a Saturday morning at Bridgehall Primary school. The trial will deliver a series of child focussed physical activity and sensory play workshops.
Brooke Waldron, Project Manager at A.C.E. said: "We believe in a person-led approach. So, we have collaborated closely with the parents to offer the support needed for each child. The sessions are well attended, with only a couple of parents opting to stay, giving parents some much-needed respite. Feedback from parents so far is that their children are comfortable and happy within the environment we have created. Together with our selfless volunteers and the mentorship of The Seashell Trust, we are confident that we are providing a truly accessible, worthwhile experience for the children involved."
Stephen Pearson, Community Engagement Officer at Seashell Trust, said: "It really is a great club that is making a difference in the area to parents and children with SEND. A.C.E. are leading the way in creating and developing this style of provision to see inactive SEND children become active in their own community.”
Councillor Helen Foster Grime, Cabinet Member for Communities & Housing said: "The club helps the children to build confidence, develop their social skills, and gain the many health and wellbeing benefits that moving more can bring. The shared vision is to create a more active and inclusive Stockport."
The programme has been a catalyst to further discussions with key stakeholders, the next steps are to develop a SEND HAF programme for the borough.
