ParkPlay is a free, weekly outdoor play session inspired by the spirit of Parkrun but focused entirely on fun, games and movemennt and is set to launch in Offerton Parish Park this spring. Designed to build happier, healthier communities through the life‑changing power of play, ParkPlay invites all generations to move, play and connect in a safe, welcoming environment. It brings people together, encourages children to be active, and creates inclusive outdoor spaces for families to enjoy time outdoors.
Although Offerton will be the first area to host ParkPlay, the ambition is to expand the sessions into other parts of Stockport once the model is established. To make that possible, the team is now looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help get the first site up and running.
Cllr Wendy Meikle, Cabinet Member for Children, Families and Education
"We’re really excited to bring ParkPlay to Stockport as part of our commitment to develop healthy communities and stronger neighbourhoods. This is a fantastic opportunity for families to enjoy free, active fun together and creating a space where children can be active, parents can connect with others, and the whole community can enjoy safe, structured play close to home.
I am really proud of the thriving network of volunteers we have across the borough who do a fantastic job to support and help out in their local communities every day and I am hoping that the local community come forward to give up their time to support and help out so families can enjoy the benefits of getting active together in the outdoors."
If you think you would like to be involved in helping to shape something new that can grow across Stockport then please find out more about the volunteering opportunities for PlayPark at our volunteering hub. The volunteer opportunity is live on Volunteer Hub, and Sector3 are supporting the recruitment effort. While we’d love to have volunteers from the local Offerton area, anyone who wants to get involved is most welcome. The team will also be sharing updates through local social media groups and community networks.
To help answer questions and bring people together, an information evening is being held on Wednesday 4th March 6:30-7:30pm, online at meet.google.com/acx-quuv-dow you can find out more about what volunteering involves and how the sessions will run.
If you are interested in supporting ParkPlay, whether regularly or just now and again, we encourage you to come along to the meeting, meet the team, and see how you can get involved.
