New council leader appoints cabinet

Stockport Council has confirmed that Cllr Mark Roberts will be the new Leader of the Council.

Cllr Roberts replaces Cllr Mark Hunter as Leader of the Council.

Cllr Roberts said: “I'm really proud to be stepping into the role of leader of Stockport Council.

“I want to start by thanking Cllr Mark Hunter for his incredible service to this borough. His leadership has helped shape the Stockport that we see today and it's a pretty exciting place to be.”

Cllr Jilly Julian has been named as Deputy Leader of the Council.

“I’m really pleased and excited to be the new Deputy Leader of Stockport Council,” she said.

“My role is all about supporting the Leader in leading our new cabinet, working with communities across the borough, and helping to make sure the Council delivers on the things that matter most to you – from local services to big plans for Stockport’s future.”

The following councillors will also be part of the cabinet: Cllr Wendy Meikle, Cllr Helen Foster-Grime, Cllr Grace Baynham, Cllr Dan Oliver, Cllr Jake Austin and Cllr Michaela Meikle.

Each Cabinet member holds a portfolio of areas across the council that they are responsible for.

The Council Meeting has also given approval to the appointment of members to committees, including the appointment of chairs and vice-chairs.
