Marple Leisure and Community Hub Update – February 2024
We would like to thank everyone who attended the two public drop-in sessions in September and completed the online engagement for the Marple Leisure & Community Hub
We received a total of 758 responses on the proposals from individual residents and community groups.
During the consultation process the council gave a commitment that all comments received would be considered, analysed, and where possible used to inform the next stages of the design of the Leisure and Community Hub.
We have collated and analysed all responses received and are able to share progress and changes to the scheme as a result on the Council’s Consultation website here.
Please see updated plans for the Marple Community & Leisure Hub below.
An indicate landscape plan has been developed for the scheme, however, we are currently working with stakeholders to develop the design.
Marple Community Hub - Site Plan
The planning application for the project will be submitted in early March. Along with the planning application the council will be submitting a statement of community involvement.
As an addition a LUF Engagement Report will be provided on the council newsroom, this report will provide a detailed analysis of all of the comments that were made by residents and how we have responded to them. This report will also be published on the council website to allow residents to review the process.
In addition to the consultation process, we are pleased to confirm that we have appointed a Main Contractor, Willmott Dixon Construction Limited, who will be carrying out the design and build of the new Marple Leisure and Community Hub.
As part of the exciting plans to build the new Marple Community Hub the council and its contractor, Willmott Dixon, need to undertake ground investigation works at Marple Memorial Car Park. These are vital works to inform the detailed design of the building.
The survey will be commencing on Monday 26th February 2024 and is due to be completed on Friday 8th March 2024 (two-week period). During this time there will be an impact on the car park and pedestrian areas.
During the first week (26th February – 4th March) there will be a minimal amount of parking bays available, however, during the second week (4th – 8th March) only disabled parking bays will be available. A total of six disabled parking bays will be provided throughout the works. Alternative parking can be found on Hollins Lane.
Marple Library will also be temporarily closed from the 28th Feb – 4th March 2024. The library will re-open on the 4th March 2024.
