Looking for a career in childcare?

If you like working with children and want a career that offers the flexibility to fit work around your family’s needs then Childminding could be the career for you.

Stockport Council is holding an information session for people thinking of becoming Registered Childminders on Thursday 13 September 2018 at 6.30pm in Walthew House in Shaw Heath.

The session will cover
• what you need to think about before becoming a childminder
• the Ofsted regulations for Registered Childminders
• the process for training and registration
• costs involved and support available along with a chance to ask questions.

There will also be an opportunity to enrol on a 9 week evening course which will then enable participants to go forward to Ofsted registration. 98% of Childminders in Stockport are now graded Good or Outstanding.

With many parents taking advantage of the 30 hours funded childcare currently available, this is potentially a great business opportunity for new Childminders as there is likely to be a high demand and the session will also cover funded places for eligible children. Many Childminders are now developing partnerships with their local nurseries and schools, so that the funded hours can be shared between them for the benefit of everyone.

There is lots of free support available from the Council and local Childminder organisations, to help new Childminders through the registration process and when they start work, and the government is also offering a £300 start-up grant, subject to eligibility, to help all newly qualified Childminders with the costs of setting up their business.

Councillor Colin Foster, Cabinet Member for Children and Family Services at Stockport Council, said: “Working with children can be immensely rewarding, seeing them grow and develop. The event in September will give useful advice and guidance to those who want to find out more and I would strongly recommend attending to anyone looking into a career in Childminding.”
