Local foster carers helping to recruit new foster carers

Local Stockport foster carers are holding events to recruit foster carers who can offer safe, loving homes for local children, sibling groups and children with disabilities.

Local foster carers helping to recruit new foster carers

On Saturday 21 July, local foster carers hosted a fostering stand during the Stockport Carnival and chatted to carnival goers at Woodbank Park, handing out leaflets and explaining about their experiences of fostering and the different types of fostering available in Stockport.

To the delight of the children, our short break carers, Lucy and Sarah, offered free face painting and glitter face designs to all the children visiting the stand.

Gail, who has been fostering for over 3 years in Stockport, was on hand to talk about respite fostering: “We currently foster a local young person with special needs and are looking for people who would consider offering respite once a month to my young person. My background is working with children with autism and SEN so would encourage anyone who has these skills to come forward and see if respite fostering for a special needs child would be suitable for them. As foster carers we are extensively trained, supported and paid regular weekly allowances to carry out this vital role."

Councillor Colin Foster, Stockport Council’s Cabinet Member for Children and Family Services, said: “We are committed to recruiting more foster carers in Stockport, foster carers who can make a positive difference to a young person’s future. These events give people who are considering fostering the opportunity to meet local foster carers, hear what is involved and how to take the first step and find out more about fostering in Stockport”.

During July, August and September, drop in sessions and open evenings will be taking place for anyone interested in finding out more about the different fostering schemes available and the support, training and fees paid to local foster carers.

Drop in sessions at Costa Coffee, Peel Centre from 11am-2pm:

  • Friday 27 July 2018
  • Friday 24 August 2018
  • Friday 21 September 2018

Open evenings at Stockport Town Hall, 6pm start:

  • Tuesday 7 August 2018
  • Tuesday 11 September 2018
