Local and Combined Authority Mayoral Elections 2024 are taking place on Thursday 2 May 2024.

Local and Combined Authority Mayoral Elections 2024

Last year the UK Government introduced a requirement for voters to show photo ID when voting at a polling station at some elections. In Stockport, this means you will need acceptable photo ID in order to vote in the upcoming Local Elections on Thursday 2 May 2024.

At these elections, 21 seats on Stockport Council (one from each ward) will be up for election, and the election of the Mayor of Greater Manchester will also take place on the same day.

Voting

There are many ways to vote, and more details can be found on our website here. To vote at a polling station, you'll need to make sure to present photo identification. For more information on which forms of photo ID will be accepted, visit the Electoral Commission website.

If you don't have photo ID, don't worry; you can apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate. Please note that you will need to apply by 5pm on Wednesday 24 April to receive your certificate in time.

For those who are appointing someone else to vote on their behalf, the deadline to apply for a proxy vote is 5pm on 24 April, you can find out more information and apply online here.

If you are not sure where to go on the day, you can also visit our Find your polling station pages and enter your address to find your local polling station. You can also use the polling station finder on the Where do I vote? website, which provides a map and directions.
