Temporary accommodation has been secured at Adswood Primary School, enabling Autisk’s specialist short breaks service weekend provision to continue without interruption.
There is continuity of support for the February half-term holiday club. Please visit Autisk’s Facebook page for information on sessions and how to book.
As shared previously, Adswood Young People’s Centre on Neston Grove has been closed following the discovery of a serious issue with the building, rendering it unsafe to remain open. The building was secured while assessments took place. The safety of children, families and staff remains our highest priority.
Essential repairs are currently underway to allow Autisk to return as soon as it is safe. This is a short-term solution while we continue to search for a more suitable long-term location that meets Autisk’s specialist requirements and could provide an improved space for families and staff. We remain committed to working together to secure a sustainable long-term solution and will keep families updated as plans progress.
We understand how unsettling this situation may be for those who rely on Autisk’s services, and we are sorry for the disruption caused. Stockport Council continues to work closely with Autisk not only to maintain continuity in the short term but also to secure suitable longer term accommodation. Our shared priority is to ensure support continues without interruption while plans for a permanent solution are developed. Reducing moves is a key priority, as repeated relocations can cause unnecessary anxiety. We are working to keep temporary arrangements stable and support families navigating the change of locations.
Our families and staff remain at the heart of our planning. Together with Parents and Carers Together Stockport (PACTS), we are supporting Autisk to ensure the change of venue is managed in a way that minimises any anxiety for families and staff and maintains continuity for children, young people and their families.
If you need any additional support or have questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
