This year’s Stockport Jobs Fair broke all attendance records, with over 730 prospective employees visiting display stands at the Town Hall event, up 53% on the previous year.

Jobs Fair draws record crowds

The successful event, which took place in the Town Hall Ballroom, has taken place each year since 2008. Organised by Stockport Council’s growth team in partnership with Job Centre Plus, attendance at this year’s event was the higher than ever, significantly improving upon last year’s tally of 430.

Feedback from employers has also been highly positive, with high satisfaction all round with the number and calibre of candidates. All reported that they saw more than enough prospects to take forward to the next stage for the number of vacancies that they had to fill.

Employers from the soon-to-open Redrock were also highly pleased with the further support from the Council for their businesses. This includes help in setting up a number of pre-employment courses to support them in finding the right people for their businesses and assistance for people experiencing disadvantage to effectively compete for jobs.

Councillor Kate Butler, Cabinet Member for Economy and Regeneration said: “It is great see growing levels of employer engagement year-on-year at our jobs fair. The Jobs Fair features high profile employers showcasing the many great job opportunities available in Stockport this year drew unprecedented crowds, reflecting the successful efforts of all those who worked hard to advertise and organise the event.

“As a Council we are seeking to do all we can to ensure Stockport residents can access the new jobs and opportunities which are arising around us. Not only have we invested in excess of £1bn in regenerating our town centre economy, but we have put in significant work to ensure people have access to training and are work-ready, alongside employer engagement initiatives such as this."
