It's Libraries Week!

This week, from 4th to 10th October, it’s Libraries Week across the UK!

There’s never been a better time to for residents to drop in to their local library or make use of the online services available. All 16 libraries have now reopened in Stockport, with 9 libraries operating Open+ hours, meaning you’re able to pick up books, use PC or WIFI services or use a room for study or a meeting outside of the hours where staff are present. For more on Open+ services, visit

Not got time to physically visit one of our libraries? There are plenty of services you can access online from the comfort of your own home. Download thousands of e-books and e-audiobooks to enjoy using the Borrowbox app, or browse newspapers and magazines from across the world using the Pressreader service.

There’s also the new Spydus app available to download from the Apple or Google Play Store! Manage your membership, reserve books and even scan your new finds when out and about to see if they’re available in Stockport’s libraries.

The 7th October is National Poetry Day, so there’s even more reason to pop in to your local library and discover something new. This year’s theme is ‘Choices’, and Stockport libraries will be on-hand with a great range of poetry on the theme. Revisit an old favourite or discover a new find!

Stockport libraries are about more than just great books (although they have them on hand, too). Research your family history or local heritage with help from our colleagues at the Local Heritage Library. There are also lots of great online resources to help with everything from driving theory tests to looking up facts about key people: just visit to find out more. You just need to be a member.

Remember, it’s free to join the library to access all of these great services. You can join in person, or online. Let’s support our fantastic libraries in Stockport this Libraries Week 2021!
