It’s a goal! Stockport Council joins UK wide Fostering World Cup Challenge campaign to recruit more foster carers during the World Cup
The goal of the campaign is to recruit more foster carers during the World Cup
Stockport Council is joining up with 25 local authorities from across the UK to form a new virtual team for the World Cup with the aim of achieving just one goal: to recruit more foster carers.
Football like fostering bring communities together so to coincide with the global FIFA World Cup Football tournament, Stockport and 25 council fostering teams from across the nation have joined together to form ‘Local Councils United’, a virtual regional football themed short film highlighting the benefits why people should foster with their local council.
Stockport as part of ‘Local Councils United’ will share their football themed film on Thursday 1 December, on Day 12 of the World Cup Football tournament on their social media channels with the hashtag #FosterWithYourCouncil2022. The film can be viewed at on YouTube. It was filmed at Stockport County and features local foster carers a care leaver and Cllr Wendy Meikle.
Cllr Wendy Meikle, Cabinet Member for Children, Families & Education said: “Stockport Council is proud to join forces with local councils as a united fostering community to share why you should foster with your local council.
We want to reach out to our local Stockport communities and ask, “can you help a child in care to reach their life goals?”
Fostering and football brings people and communities together for a common purpose and by working together we can make a difference in a child’s life”
Stockport County’s James Jennings said “We are delighted to be able to offer County’s ground for this film and help support our local fostering communities here in Stockport”
Foster carer Geoff Durbin said: “We’re really pleased to be part of this campaign to highlight the amazing difference a great foster carer can have on a child’s life. When we were approached to take part in the film we had no hesitation in joining in and sharing the message.”
You can watch all the films produced by Stockport and the 26 councils by going to the Foster with your council website.
