In memory of Sir Howard Bernstein

Sir Howard played such an essential part in Manchester's transformation, which continues to bring benefits to Greater Manchester today.

Cllr Mark Hunter, Leader of Stockport Council, said: "Sir Howard was a giant of local government and set the course for what Manchester is today, a modern, vibrant city that holds its own amongst others across the world.

"His dedication to our region and to local government was second to none, which in turn benefited not just Manchester but Greater Manchester as a whole, bringing economic development and prosperity to our region which still has a lasting impact.

His legacy is not just buildings and regeneration, but the many opportunities it has created for residents across Greater Manchester."
